NRC’s Healthy Eating Resources and the 2019 Canada’s Food Guide

February 15, 2019

The Nutrition Resource Centre (NRC) welcomes the release of the new Canada’s Food Guide and Dietary Guidance for Health Professionals and Policy Makers. In a recent press release, we shared our comments about the new Food Guide, and our call to Health Canada to continue moving forward on the implementation of the Healthy Eating Strategy.

NRC currently houses and maintains the following healthy eating resources:

  • Healthy Eating for a Healthy Baby*
  • Feeding Your Baby*
  • Eat Right Be Active: A Guide for Caregivers of Toddlers 12 – 36 Months
  • Eat Right Be Active: A Guide for Caregivers of Preschoolers Ages 3 – 5
  • Eat Right Be Active: A Guide for Caregivers of Children Ages 6 – 8
  • The Healthy Eating Manual
  • NutriSTEP® Implementation Toolkit and the parent educational resources, How to Build a Healthy Toddler and How to Build a Healthy Preschooler**

NRC recognizes that the new Canada’s Food Guide and Dietary Guidance documents released earlier this year will impact the development and/or refreshment of healthy eating resources used by health intermediaries. We understand and appreciate the importance of updating these valuable resources to align with the revised recommendations and messaging in the new Canada’s Food Guide.

We also recognize that the healthy eating patterns to be released from Health Canada later this year may have an impact on the revision of these resources.  For this reason, we are waiting for more information to be available before we begin the planning process to undertake these revisions.

NRC is committed to working with our stakeholders to ensure that these healthy eating resources are up-to-date and reflect Health Canada’s complete set of evidence-based healthy eating recommendations and tools. If you are interested in working with us as Health Canada releases more information, we encourage you to contact us at sblack@opha.on.ca.
