Food Literacy Among Teens, Millennials & Parents— The Latest Insights

Date: March 8th, 2018

Location: Online

In 2016, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA), along with an advisory committee consisting of the Nutrition Resource Centre at the Ontario Public Health Association, the Ontario Home Economics Association, AgScape and Farm and Food Care Ontario, undertook research to gain a better understanding of food literacy among Ontario consumers. Three specific consumer groups were targeted: parents with children at home, early millennials, and teenagers.

In this webinar, Tyler Brooks of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture will share the results of this recent research on meal planning and preparation; food purchasing behaviours and skills transfer; where Ontarians source their food information and knowledge; and local food knowledge. Tyler will cover interesting findings from this research, such as how much time Ontario parents spent preparing meals during a typical week, teens knowledge about planning and preparing a healthy meal, and how millennials learn about food and how to cook. The results of this provincial food literacy research can be used for developing effective food literacy programs and resources, and as an aid for future messaging surrounding food literacy for Ontarians.
