Strategic Nutrition: Reimagining Public Health Nutrition into the 21st Century

Date: August 17th, 2017

Location: Online

Traditional approaches to nutrition comprised of single education initiatives or policies have largely failed to curb the epidemic of various nutrition-related diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity. It’s time for governments to take a new approach to public health. In this webinar, Dr. Norman Temple will argue for the need for an overall comprehensive action plan—strategic nutrition—-to transform existing obesogenic environments to ones that support healthy eating choices. Dr. Temple will describe strategic nutrition’s key elements and potential obstacles to its successful implementation.

Speaker:

Norman J. Temple, PhD, is the professor of nutrition at Athabasca University in Alberta, Canada. He has published 85 papers and 14 books. Together with Denis Burkitt, he coedited Western Diseases: Their Dietary Prevention and Reversibility(1994).  This continued and extended Burkitt’s pioneering work on the role of dietary fiber in chronic diseases of lifestyle.  He also coedited Nutritional Health: Strategies for Disease Prevention (2012; third edition), Beverage Impacts on Health and Nutrition (2016; second edition), Community Nutrition for Developing Countries(2016), Nutrition Guide for Physicians and Related Healthcare Professionals (2017; second edition), and Excessive Medical Spending: Facing the Challenge (2007).
