Report of the Auditor General of Canada Chapter 6 – Nutrition North Canada Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada

A chapter in the Report of the Auditor General of Canada-Fall 2014 which focuses on the performance evaluation of the Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada’s Nutrition North Canada (NNC) program launched in April 2011. The main purpose of the report is to evaluate the program’s ability to its objective of increasing accessibility of healthy foods in remote areas and allocate the resources and subsidies to benefit consumers. The findings showed that the program failed to meet the two objectives discussed above. The report panel recommends the department to complete more work to ensure subsidies and resource allocation are on based on current needs of the communities rather than historical needs.
