Healthy Eating in the 21st Century-Part 1

We are excited to be launching our new podcast series Healthy Eating in the 21st Century with this episode. In this series we will explore different aspects of dietary guidance including the latest evidence, recommendations and key nutrition messages for our changing food landscape, and the leading opinions about the impact dietary guidance has on the people we work with, our clients and consumers.

In this episode, we will be talking with Dr. Jess Haines, Registered Dietitian and Associate Professor of Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph. Dr. Haines’s research aims to bridge epidemiological research on the determinants of health behaviours with the design, implementation, and evaluation of family-based interventions to support children’s healthy eating and growth. She is the co-Director of the Guelph Family Health Study, a family-based study designed to: 1) identify early life predictors of chronic disease, and 2) examine the impact of interventions and policies on health behaviours among families with young children. In addition, she was one of 13 academics who provided feedback to Health Canada on Canada’s Dietary Guidelines, released in January 2019.

Dr. Haines will be sharing some highlights from the Guelph Family Health Study’s work with families of young children as well as her insights on how the New Canada’s Food Guide can support families in healthy eating, what additional supports families may need, and her thoughts about how researchers can measure the impact of the new Food Guide.
