Nutrition Connections Community of Practice
Nutrition Connections is excited to launch a community of practice (CoP) for current or new OPHA members with an interest in community or population nutrition.
This CoP will be organized around principles and practices that promote and support healthy public policy and equitable and sustainable food systems for all.
The goals of this CoP are to:
- Explore and share best practices related to community and population nutrition of relevance to CoP participants
- Collaboratively develop, collect and share information and strategies for building capacity of CoP participants in the area of community and population nutrition
- Explore ways in which learning opportunities and supports can better address current challenges in community and population nutrition experienced by CoP participants
Depending on the priorities of participants, this CoP could focus on a number of topics that could include:
- Increasing awareness of food sovereignty for Indigenous, Black and racialized communities
- The role of advocacy to advance public policy related to supportive food and nutrition environments
- Understanding the impact of diet culture on the mental health of children and youth
- And more!
As a participant you would be committing to:
- Participating in a virtual orientation session in the coming weeks (or viewing the recording if unable to attend live)
- Participating in four one-hour virtual meetings throughout the year (July 2023 – June 2024) to discuss topics, share experiences, learn new strategies and network with other participants
- Responding to an online survey and reflecting on your professional experiences with relevant strategies, resources and approaches
- Contributing to the discussion and the development of content on a dedicated project (to be determined by group consensus)
- Collaborating with other participants to plan, organize and deliver at least one related professional learning opportunity for OPHA members (by June 2024)
Who should participate?
Active (or new) OPHA members who have an interest and/or role in community or population nutrition are invited to participate in this CoP. If you are interested in participating in this exciting new opportunity, please complete this form.
