The Real Cost of Eating Well
Every year Elgin St. Thomas Public Health surveys the price of food items from grocery stores across Elgin St. Thomas using a tool called the Nutritious Food Basket. In 2015, a healthy diet for a family of four costs $838. Many can’t afford to pay for rent, a healthy diet, and other basic needs. They may skip meals or eat a less healthy diet. This is called food insecurity. Watch the real life story of someone from Elgin St. Thomas living with food insecurity.
