The Navigator

The Navigator is a free online repository of evidence-informed resources and tools designed to help health professionals and community organizations find their way through the complex landscape of healthy eating and nutrition.

Here you can access resources that highlight best and promising practices in order to support policy and program development. You can also submit a resource for consideration.

New resources are added regularly: the best way to stay up to date about what’s new in the Navigator  is to subscribe to our newsletter.

This report sets out Health Canada’s guidelines and considerations on healthy eating for Canadians aged 2 years of age and older. Based on the best available scientific evidence, they promote healthy eating and overall nutritional well-being, and support improvements to the Canadian food environment.

The Paint Your Plate toolkit was developed by Ontario Dietitians in Public Health (ODPH) for child care settings in Ontario to support the implementation of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014. The goal of this toolkit is to make it easier for young children to enjoy vegetables and fruit every day and complements ODPH’S Menu Planning & Supportive Nutrition Environments in Child Care Settings Practical Guide.

Nibi Giinwiindawan (We Are Water) is a five module curriculum for communities/schools/youth programs interested in creating dialogue and discussion around the human relationship with water. Combining western and traditional knowledge and methods, youth will discover and share their own stories surrounding the vital importance and sacredness of water.

This report presents the findings of the second open consultation for Canada’s Food Guide. It is a synthesis of the feedback received from over 6,000 unique contributors through online discussion forums and questionnaires collected on behalf of Health Canada. The objective of the Phase 2 consultation was to get feedback on proposed Guiding Principles and Recommendations.

This toolkit provides educators and parents with strategies to increase vegetables, fruit and water consumption among school-aged children. Strategies target multiple levels of influence including students’ and parents’ attitudes and knowledge, classroom and school level social and physical environments as well as school policies. This toolkit was designed to support The Foundations for a Healthy School resource.
